Creating your agile board
What is a board?

A board displays issues from one or more projects in columns that represent the team's process. They provide the team with a shared view of all work that hasn't started, work that is in progress, and work that is completed.

Step 1: Create a board

To create a new board:

  1. Click Search () > View all boards.

  2. Click Create board.

  3. Select a board type (either agility, Scrum, or Kanban).

  4. Select how you want your board created - You can either create a new project for your new board, or add your board to one or more existing projects.

Which board type should I choose?

The three board types are:

Tableaux scrum
  • Manage stories, tasks, and, and bugs in sprints

  • Suits teams that deliver work on a regular schedule

Tableaux Kanban
  • Manage stories, tasks, and bugs in a continuous flow

  • Suits teams who control work volume from a backlog

Agility boards
  • Manage tasks with a flexible, simple board

  • Suits teams that are new to agile, or teams that don't want to spend much time configuring things

If your team has a strong understanding of agile, we recommend picking Scrum or Kanban (whichever suits your team's process). If your team is new to agile, or you want to jump in without spending much time on configuration, we recommend picking the agility board.

Step 2: Set up your board

What settings should I configure first?

We recommend configuring columns and quick filters first. Configuring columns is useful, because you can make your board reflect your team's process. For Scrum/Kanban boards, we also recommend setting up Quick Filters, so that team members can focus on the issues they need to, quickly. For example, you might configure Quick Filters that only show issues for specific releases.

Scrum/Kanban boards

  1. Go to your board by clicking Search () > View all boards, and selecting your board.
  2. Click more (Ellipses button) > Board settings.

Agility boards

Agility boards are still in development, so you can't configure much. The stuff you can customize - like columns, column limits, and development tool integration - is all done on the board itself. Agility boards are only in Jira Software Cloud.

Step 3: Navigate between boards

To navigate from one board to another, use the board switcher located in the left-hand menu under the project name.
